HITOMI NARIAI

Born in 1992. Graduated from the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, Keio University.

Using materials such as mohair and alpaca—traditionally found in classic teddy bears—textile-based sculptural works are created through a personal approach.
Starting from hand-molded clay prototypes, all stages of the process—from pattern making and sewing to dyeing and crafting parts—are carried out by hand.
Each piece is finished with a sculptural sensibility and refined to maintain a beautiful form from every angle, with subtle attention paid to the flow and texture of the fur.

Inspiration comes not only from real animals, but also from imaginary creatures found in films and stories.
At the same time, the foundation of the work lies in the sensory memories of touching animals or elements of nature.
The process explores how those intangible impressions—memories and feelings—can quietly take form.
